The local St. Augustine news desk has learned that Thursday morning, Police Officer William Protami responded to a residence on Water Street to investigate the burglary of an occupied home.
The residents of the Water Street house were upstairs sleeping when, sometime after midnight, a burglar entered their home through an unlocked rear door which leads to the screened pool area.
The owner told police that he heard his dog barking downstairs around 4:00 a.m. When he went downstairs to investigate, he saw nothing out of place.
When his wife got up about an hour later, she noticed her purse missing from the kitchen along with their son’s wallet.
Other items were taken from the family room to include: Wii console, laptop computer, digital camera, a cell phone, and a flash light.
All together, about $1780 worth of property was stolen in the break in.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that evidence was taken from the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
