I was driving home last night and one of those annoying chimes went off in my dashboard and the “WALK” light started flashing next to my fuel gauge so I pulled off the side of the road into a convenience store that sells gasoline.
I did a double-take when I looked at the pumps; continuing to flip through my filling station charge cards, trying to find one that said “Invigorate”. No luck, so, out comes the VISA card and to hell with it.
There I stood, my blood pressure rising with every gallon pumped. Nobody in their right mind would have ever thought it would cost nearly $50 to fill-up a Jeep Wrangler, for heaven’s sake.
I kept looking over the pump — thinking to myself that the colors sort-of looked familiar; but, I couldn’t place them at first.
By the time the pump handle kicked off, it dawned on me. The Invigorate symbol was in blue and white and eerily reminded me of the long-gone AMOCO symbol, but what was up with the green? AMOCO was red, white and blue, right?
Wait a minute … AMOCO was bought-out by those oil-spilling, Gulf Coast polluting British Petroleum bastards that are destroying our marine environment and floating in smelly tar-balls to demolish our beaches, fishing and tourist industries, weren’t they?
Then why in the world aren’t the pumps emblazoned with BP starbursts; so we’ll know whose products we’re buying — before we’ve spent $40 or $50? Are they ashamed of the BP brand, to the point that it appears nowhere on the gas pumps in their stations?
I guess BP was able to come up with a public relations plan to hide their identity faster than they’ve been able to come up with a solution to the millions of barrels of crude oil that they are spilling into the Gulf.
So, “take that” you 762,401 people on Facebook who have decided to “Boycott BP” — they’re smarter than you; and they’re hiding in plain sight. “Fill ‘er up?”
