Community Affairs Officer Barbara Stevens reported to Historic City News that the St. Augustine Police Department was called to the Winn-Dixie Marketplace on South Ponce de Leon Boulevard on Christmas Day to investigate a robbery.
When Officer Kevin Carroll made contact at about 12:30 p.m., he learned from the victim that as she drove into the parking lot and went into the store, she noticed a white male wearing an orange sweatshirt; who she says, was watching her.
According to the police report released today, the victim purchased her items then left the store.
Once the victim entered her car, the man entered through the passenger-side door and told her “if you don’t want to die, then you need to listen to me”.
The victim got scared and jumped out of her car.
The robber grabbed the victim’s purse and fled south; through the parking lot.
Police conducted a canvas of the area and the victim’s purse and an orange sweatshirt were located behind Winn-Dixie.
Contact was made with a suspect who was brought to the scene, however, the victim was unable to positively identify the suspect.
