Historic City News Editor Michael Gold will seek election to the open seat on the City of St. Augustine Commission created when local architect Donald A. Crichlow decided not qualify for re-election.
Crichlow was elected in 2006 without opposition — however, his four-year term is expiring.
Gold, a St. Augustine native, will face opposition for the four-year seat from William Lavern Leary who moved from Washington, D.C. to St. Augustine five years ago; after he, and his wife Karen Jurgensen, retired.
Crichlow helped Leary fill a vacancy on the Planning and Zoning Board only a few months after he moved to town, however, that position was appointed. Leary resigned as Vice-Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Board in February.
Neither Gold nor Leary has ever run for elected office.
