After a successful opening on SR 207 recently, Epic Theaters, Inc., a privately held motion picture theater operator based in DeLand, will work with Developers Realty to bring a state-of-the-art movie theater to Town Center in Palm Coast.
“The theater,” according to Epic Theaters President Frank DeMarsh, “will feature 14 screens with stadium style seating and Dolby Digital sound.”
“The design criteria for the theater facility will be specific for the Town Center project, blending in with the unique character of the area,” DeMarsh said.
The recently opened St. Augustine Epic Theater is one of a trio of 16 screen theaters together with Deltona and the Orlando suburb of Clermont. At this time, the 14 screen Palm Coast theater will be the only operating movie theater anywhere in Flagler County.
“We’re expanding significantly in Florida,” DeMarsh said. “And we are very excited about the Palm Coast project.”
Epic is also constructing a 12-plex in Hendersonville, NC. All of the Epic developments are slated to anchor major mixed-use projects in their respective markets.
All the news about the construction of the Town Center theater is not good, however. Local news reporters at Historic City News learned that a construction worker died after falling off a roof while working on the project.
The accident happened last week when a construction worker, identified as 40-year-old Daniel Vance Caldwell, suffered fatal injuries when he fell off the roof of the Epic Theaters, which is currently under construction in Town Center.
Flagler County Sheriff’s Department officials responded to the tragic workplace accident and Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident reportedly occurred at 10:00 a.m. at the construction site located on Central Avenue.
Caldwell, who fell nearly 25-feet to his death, was employed by Palatka Welding; a subcontractor working on the roof of the Epic Theaters.
Construction has resumed on the theaters.
