Priscilla Proctor has invited Historic City News readers to participate in a fine art silent auction featuring the works of Flagler College art professors and alumni.
Bidding for the auction is currently available online and will conclude at the Flagler College New Year’s Eve Ball on December 31st.
The proceeds from the auction will benefit the Enzo Torcoletti Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. John N. Foster Jr. and Mr. Charles B. Foster in honor of Torcoletti — a Flagler College art professor who retired in 2007.
To qualify for the scholarship, a student must be a rising sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and have financial need. The scholarship recipient must be either a fine arts major; or minor.
Torcoletti is originally from Italy. He started his teaching career at Flagler College in 1971.
Some of the artists contributing their work for the auction include Flagler College art professors Don Martin and Laura Mongiovi, Flagler College alumnus Chuck Foster and local artists Joseph and Theresa Segal.
Joseph Segal’s work is on exhibit at the Paia Contemporary Gallery in Hawaii, The Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach and was also featured in Forbes Magazine.
Segal credits Torcoletti for his work as a sculptor.
“I’m participating [in the auction] to honor Enzo’s teaching career at Flagler,” he said. “If it wasn’t for his passion for his work and dedication to his students, I wouldn’t be a sculptor today. Perhaps the scholarship will allow someone else to have a life changing experience.”
