Local Historic City News reporters were on hand this morning as Flagler College held its spring commencement ceremony for graduating seniors.
About 369 undergraduate students received diplomas in the Flagler College Gym as they prepare to leave what has, over the past four years, become home.
Today’s commencement address was delivered by Jacksonville businessman John D. Rood. Chairman and founder of the Vestcor Companies and former U. S. Ambassador to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Rood challenged the Flagler College graduates to look forward to the future and to make a difference.
Tears were shed, and goodbyes were said, among the students; many of whom are leaving town to begin career searches in states and communities around the country. “Come back and visit this summer,” one student called out to another. “I’ll try,” was the reply; knowing that this summer, trying to overcome the challenges of a tough economy and high rate of unemployment will be occupying most of their time.
