Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum announced to local reporters with Historic City News that St. Augustine resident Derek Hankerson has been appointed to serve on the African Americans for McCollum Steering Committee that was formed last week in Jacksonville.
Led by honorary chair Florida State Representative Jennifer Carroll, McCollum said, “This impressive group, comprised of respected business leaders, elected officials, party activists and civic and community leaders, will play a key role in communicating my vision for Florida’s future with Floridians across the state.”
Joined by Representative Carroll, Attorney General McCollum recognized leaders of the African Americans for McCollum coalition at a meet and greet with supporters at the Republican Party of Duval County headquarters in Jacksonville. During his remarks, McCollum outlined his economic agenda and his plan to create 500,000 new jobs in six years.
“I am honored to have the support of these leaders in the African American community and thank Representative Jennifer Carroll for her leadership in chairing this important coalition for our campaign,” said McCollum. “As we head into the critical November election, we will continue to educate voters on our agenda to create jobs, keep taxes low, diversify our economy and improve the quality of life for all Floridians.”
“With more than one million Floridians out of work, we need real leadership to turn our economy around and ensure our most prosperous days are before us,” said Representative Carroll. “I’m proud to support my friend Bill McCollum for governor, and am committed to helping him aggressively campaign across the Sunshine State.”
