This afternoon’s performance by members of the St. Augustine Jazz Society concludes this summer’s Concerts in the Plaza; as the Labor Day Weekend winds to a close.
The City sponsors the concerts which have been called “the best way to spend a Thursday night in St. Augustine”. It’s easy to understand why when you’re sitting under the majestic oaks of the Plaza de la Constitucion enjoying quality musical entertainment.
The concert season started on Memorial Day and ended today.
Today’s concert drew an audience of about two or three dozen who brought their favorite lounge chair or simply rolled out a blanket.
Some bands have been playing in the series season after season while others have joined the roster in more recent years which guaranteed attendees a wide variety of entertainment.
The Saint Augustine Jazz Society was founded in 1989 as a non-profit organization, by a group of musicians and area residents who enjoy jazz and swing music, good fellowship and the opportunity to serve the community. Saint Augustine Jazz Society provides an important forum for the exchange of information among jazz enthusiasts within our area. Since the beginning the organization has presented and produced numerous jazz programs and events, bringing musicians and the public together to enjoy, appreciate and learn about jazz.
For the past twenty years, Concerts in the Plaza has been produced by the City of St. Augustine’s Public Affairs Department. This year’s season was produced with funding support from the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council.
