Local St. Augustine reporters at Historic City News have learned that this morning, Police Officer Chris Miller attempted to stop two juveniles in a speeding vehicle — that appears to be stolen.
Miller reported that he attempted to stop the vehicle; which pulled over, but took off heading north on Ponce de Leon Boulevard.
Later this morning, St. Johns County Sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle in the area of 2335 SR-A1A and attempted to stop the vehicle for the second time. The driver and passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Officers caught up to the 13 year-old passenger who provided the name and location of the boy who had been driving the car.
Police have identified the driver as 15 year-old Aaron Jones of St. Augustine, who was taken into custody at his residence and transported to the police department.
Both the 13 year-old and Jones told police that they entered several vehicles in the area; stealing money and other items. The pair discovered a set of keys in the center console of one of the burglarized vehicles — they admitted to using them to take the vehicle.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that Jones was charged with fleeing and eluding police, driving with no drivers license, speeding, and careless driving. Additional charges are pending by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
