If you read the newspaper every day, as I do, you notice a common thread about St. Augustine recently: Everyone wants to change it.
Some people say they want to preserve The Oldest City and attract more visitors to come to see St. Augustine and learn our history. They had better hurry before the power people tear it down or make so many changes, that no one will recognize St. Augustine.
Recently it was written, “Let’s eliminate some of the horse and buggies.” Now I read the new movement is, “Let’s destroy the historical bay-front and add more lanes of traffic. Say … that will also eliminate the horse and buggy area — killing two birds with one stone.”
I particularly liked the mention of installing a sign in the new area, telling of the sea wall and what use to be located there, that was of historic value.
Why not leave the historic area there … then the visitors can see it for themselves. What is wrong with leaving the scenery as it is?
We have one of the most beautiful cities in America — Leave It Alone!
Message to the power people: No one wants to visit your re-created Oldest City!
