Dear Editor:
I just wanted to say how very happy I am that Rev. Andrew Young will be in St. Augustine next week.
I am currently residing in Daytona Beach, Florida, and have wonderful historic memories of St. Augustine and the Civil Rights Movement.
Although he will not remember me (I was 15 years old), I remember going to jail twice and when I was released the second time, Rev. Young attended court with me, and the judge told me that if I returned a third time, they were going to send me away. I immediately left court and attended a “Day March”. I was almost arrested again when Rev. Young, pulled me back and said I had “done enough”.
I have missed all of his return visits to St. Augustine, and when I found out yesterday, that he will be in town, I immediately asked for the afternoon of the 9th off. I will not miss his visit on February 9th and 10th.
I really hope that I will be able to say hello and thank him again for all that he and the other Civil Rights Leaders did to help St. Augustine and this country.
I was able to walk across the stage and receive my high school diploma from St. Augustine High School in 1967.
