Meeting topic: Sustain wildlife with native plants

Renee Stambaugh reported to St. Augustine local news reporters that the program for next month’s meeting of the Florida Native Plant Society will be “Bringing Nature Home – How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants”.

Stambaugh, who is Sea Oats Chapter President of the Florida Native Plant Society, told Historic City News that Barbara Jackson, president of the Ixia Chapter (Jacksonville) of the Florida Native Plant Society, presents the acclaimed program as the keynote speaker.

This presentation is based on the studies of Dr. Doug Tallamy and his book by the same title. Jackson will make the presentation as it was originally presented at the Florida Native Plant Society Annual Conference.

Jackson, a third generation Floridian, Master Gardener and award-winning Florida Master Naturalist says, “This presentation challenges you to view your own yards and your plant choices in a much different way.”

Jackson is the chair of the City of Neptune Beach Beautification Committee, writes a column, “Native Plant Gardening”, in The Beaches Leader Newspaper, and serves on the Board of Directors for The Beaches Museum and History Center.

The local Sea Oats chapter, named for Uniola paniculata, an important plant in the coastal ecosystem, meets at 7:00 p.m., April 13th, at the St. Augustine Beach City Hall, A1A at 16th Street.
