Keepers of the Coast, a local non-profit dedicated to promoting coastal stewardship and the conservation of coastal habitat, has asked Historic City News to recruit our readers as volunteers for the 2nd annual “Morning After” beach cleanup.
The purpose of the cleanup is to restore the coastline following the impacts from July 4th, traditionally one of the busiest days of the year.
This community-wide effort will be held the morning of Monday, July 5th, from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at six different beach access points throughout St. Johns County:
Micklers Beachfront Park Ponte Vedra
Vilano Beach Access Ramp
A street Beach Access Ramp
Butler Beachfront Park East
Crescent Beachfront Park
Fort Matanzas Beach Access Ramp
No pre-registration is required and volunteers may show up at any of the locations.
All participants will be given a bag for trash, a bag for recycling, and a bag for cigarette butts. Prizes will be awarded to the person who collects the most cigarette butts at each location.
“Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate,” spokesman Billy Zeits said.
According to Zeits, the organization is looking for other community groups, businesses or families to adopt and host one of the six locations. All items needed to host on the day of the event will be provided by Keepers of the Coast.
