Jeremy Robshaw, Public Information Officer with St. Johns County Fire Rescue, informed Historic City News local reporters that emergency personnel responded to a residential structure fire on Kon Tiki Circle last night at about 10:00 p.m.
Upon arrival firefighters observed smoke escaping from the second story doorway of a duplex apartment building and found both apartment units evacuated
Crews established a water supply and began an aggressive attack on the fire — quickly knocking it down using approximately 100 gallons of water.
The fire damage was contained primarily to the bathroom and hallway area of the upstairs apartment unit, with significant heat and smoke damage present throughout the upstairs apartment.
A secondary search of the structure was completed by SJCFR to ensure no hidden fire remained prior to the situation being declared under control.
The American Red Cross was notified and is providing assistance to one occupant who was living in the building.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Fire Rescue and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
