The local St. Augustine news desk has learned that at about 7:45 Friday morning, Police Officer David Tucker responded to The Gourmet Hut at 17 Cuna Street to investigate a burglary that occurred sometime Thursday night after 9:15 p.m.
When an employee arrived to open the store, they noticed the pad lock to the door was missing. Once inside, the employee discovered that in addition to some missing food items, the lock box where the nightly deposits are kept had been damaged and approximately $590 was missing.
Further investigation revealed that Crucial Coffee, located at 26 Charlotte Street and owned by the same person, was also burglarized. The Crucial Coffee lockbox had also been damaged and approximately $290 was missing.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that evidence was collected from both scenes and the investigation is ongoing.
