Historic City News reporters will be watching at 2:00 p.m. today as provisions to register short term rentals in residential districts and another to prohibit large gatherings will be considered at the regular monthly meeting of the City of St. Augustine Planning and Zoning Board.
The board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in the Alcazar Room at City Hall.
City Commissioner Leanna Freeman brought concerns expressed by residents in the Abbott Tract about large gatherings in that neighborhood to the last commission meeting. According to Freeman, short term rental properties are being used for wedding receptions which causes an overload on the streets in the residential neighborhood.
Commissioners referred it to PZB, which examines and makes recommendations to the commission on potential planning or zoning regulations.
A prohibition on further outside mechanical equipment for vehicle repair is also on the agenda. The potential ban on further establishing “outside units”, like lifts for vehicle repair, was prompted as commissioners look to what former Mayor George Gardner refers to as “a city beautiful for our upcoming commemorations.”
