At last night’s city commission meeting, Historic City News was watching as Vice Mayor Errol Jones moved to appoint Alison Ratkovic to fill the position of City Clerk that was left vacant upon the retirement of Karen Rogers in July.
Jones and City Manager John Regan interviewed a number of applicants for the post and each felt that Ratkovic had the credentials and experience to perform the responsibilities of City Clerk. All four commissioners in attendance voted to approve the appointment.
Historic City News editor Michael Gold spent a few minutes talking with Ratkovic about her appointment today — an appointment Ratkovic says she’s excited about.
“I’ve worked for the City for over 21 years now,” Ratkovic said. “Although I’ve held a number of positions, I’ve always been here in the City Manager’s office. When Ratkovic first started at the City of St. Augustine, she remembered that Michael Rourke was City Manager.
Ratkovic was serving as administrative coordinator but she said “I’ve never been bored; they’ve had me do a lot of different things. I guess I’ve liked it enough to stay here this many years.”
The city clerk is one of three city positions chosen by the commission, along with the city manager and city attorney.
