Results: driver who killed deputy was impaired

This afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol announced to the St. Johns County local news desk that Kris E. Caudilla, who recorded a blood alcohol level of .158 before colliding head-on with SJSO Deputy James L. Anderson, will be charged as follows:

* DUI manslaughter — 2nd degree felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison
* Vehicular homicide — 2nd degree felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison
* DUI Property Damage — 1st degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in prison

At the time of the accident, which occurred at about 3:30 in the morning of January 14th, 26 year-old Caudilla tested at nearly twice the legal blood alcohol limit in Florida.

Deputy Anderson died from his injuries soon after being flown to the trauma center at Shands Hospital Jacksonville. Caudilla remains in the same hospital undergoing treatment for his injuries.

Once he is released from the hospital, he will be taken to the Duval County jail.
