First Four Weekends in October
St. Johns County and Triple Crown Sports of Fort Collins, Colorado, will host youth fast pitch softball and baseball tournaments the first four weekends of October. Oct. 2nd & 3rd will be the girls Beach Fall Classic Tournament with the 3 remaining weekends the boys St. Augustine Fall Nationals baseball tournaments held at various sites throughout the county. Ancient City Kids Day
October 23rd – Low cost family fun!
Attention Parents! Looking for something fun to do with your kids that doesn’t cost a lot of money? Then the 15th Annual Ancient City Kids Day is for you! Ancient City Kids Day will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 11a.m.-3p.m. at Francis Field on Castillo Drive. This event, coordinated by local agencies, is a day of fun-filled activities for children and families and is free for the public. Over 40 youth service agencies will offer carnival style games and activities, arts and crafts, contests for the kids and free entertainment all day. There will also be new and exciting vendors and exhibits! No child will leave empty-handed as t-shirts, prizes and goodies will be given out all day. Information about resources in our community is available for parents. The only cost to the public will be for food or drinks. Ancient City Kids Day has grown to be one of St. Augustine’s biggest youth activities, and is a popular event for the whole family. Last year approximately 3,000 people joined in the fun. Hastings Haunted House & Food Drive
October 30th – Bring the Kids!
Join us at the Haunted House on October 30th at the Equestrian Center at 108 George Miller Rd, Hastings from 7p.m. to 9:30p.m. This is an annual can goods drive for the Ours Center in Hastings. To enter the haunted house you will need to bring one or more canned goods to donate. Adoption Day Celebration
November 5th – Fun for the whole family!
In conjunction with November being National Adoption Month, the St Johns County Family Integrity Program invites the community to the 3rd annual Adoption Day Celebration. The Adoption Day Celebration will be Friday, November 5th, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Solomon Calhoun Community Center, located at 1300 Duval Street in West Augustine. Activities include free food, fun and games for all ages. The celebration is in honor of Adoptive parents and families, and information will be provided for anyone interested in becoming a Foster or Adoptive parent. An ongoing need exists in St Johns County, and throughout Florida, for Foster and Adoptive homes to care for teenagers and older sibling groups currently in the State’s custody.
Old Settlers Reunion at Alpine Groves Park
November 6th – History can be fun!
Music, entertainment, period activities and contests! The St. Johns County Recreation and Parks Department, along with the William Bartram Scenic and Historic Highway Management Council, will host the Old Settlers Reunion on Saturday, November 6th. This free cultural event will be held at Alpine Groves Park located at 2060 William Bartram Highway in Switzerland. Festivities start at 11:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. Attractions include blacksmithing, horseshoe throwing, checkers, hopscotch, dominoes, sack races, a pumpkin rolling contest, and a scarecrow building contest. Other fun activities include a cake walk, boondoggling, soap and net making. There will also be demonstrations of corn grinding, hoecakes and cane syrup. Folk and country music will be played during the event. Refreshments include sour orangeade and pine needle tea. Attendees are encouraged to wear period dress. And don’t miss the Whisker Growing Contest for the men. Participants must have a “before” photo taken in advance. Youth Basketball
Do you have a son or daughter between the ages of 7 and 14 who just can’t stop bouncing that ball? Would you like a place for them to develop their basketball skills? Then join the St. Johns County Recreation and Parks Department Youth Basketball League. Registration will begin October 1 2010 and end on November 13, 2010. Parents can find registration information beginning October 1st at www.sjcfl.us/recreation. Registration packets can be turned in to Ketterlinus Gym located at 60 Orange Street or the Recreation and Parks Department Main office at 2175 Mizell Road. You will need to bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate, registration form and check or money order made out to St. Johns County for $25 per player. Kids Let’s Play Real Tennis
Treaty Park Tennis is starting up Match Play Day for kids ages 7-16 every Friday from 4 – 6 pm. This gives kids a chance to play tennis matches with other kids under a coach’s supervision. Match Play Day will start Sept. 10 and continue until Nov. 19. The cost is $5 per day and you pay only when you come, your first Match Play Day is FREE! Annual Phone Calls from Santa registration starts in November! Ho, Ho, Ho I’m making my list and checking it twice, I’m going to find out who’s being naughty or nice….Santa will be taking registration forms for his annual Phone Calls from Santa starting November 29th! Classic Blends & the Flagler Health Care Foundation have joined forces for the 3rd year in a row to bring you a charity Dodge Ball Tournament! You are invited to participate!!! This event is fun for the entire family and a great way to help families in our community who are in need of medical care at Flagler Hospital.
