Local St. Augustine reporters at Historic City News have learned that in the wee hours of Saturday morning, Police Corporal Tim Bryan observed a vehicle driving with no tag light in the area of West King Street and South Whitney Street.
Bryan stopped the silver truck at about 3:20 a.m. and asked the 29 year-old driver, Thomas Wilson, for his driver’s license and proof of insurance. Wilson, whose reported address is 8045 CR-214 (West King Street), reached into his pocket to retrieve the documents but also withdrew a small plastic bag containing a blue pill.
The pill was identified as Valium (Diazepam), a prescription benzodiazepine; used to treat anxiety disorders, the symptoms of sudden alcohol withdrawal, muscle spasms, and seizures. Wilson stated that he did not have a prescription for the drug.
Wilson was arrested and searched, uncovering a pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Stevens of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that Wilson was charged with possession of a Schedule IV drug without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia. Wilson was released from jail after posting a $3,000 appearance bond.
