Taste of the Beach concert and tours this weekend

St. Augustine Visitors and Convention Bureau Communications Director Jay Humphreys reported some great entertainment activities for Historic City News readers this weekend.

14th ANNUAL VILANO BRIDGE 5K RUN & WALK
Get great exercise, enjoy spectacular views, maybe win a medal and treat yourself to a country-style breakfast at this popular event. Organized by the Ancient City Road Runners, Olympic medals will be awarded in each age group. The starting gun will be fired at 8 a.m. at the start/finish line on Gardner Avenue 2 blocks north and one block west of North Shores Park. Pre-registration of $15 can be completed online or Friday night from 5-7 p.m. at the North Shores Community Center, 120 Meadow Avenue. Race day registration is $20. KNOW YOUR CITY TOUR
Learn fascinating and little-known facts about St. Augustine on two tours conducted by local historian David Nolan. Sponsored by Citizens for the Preservation of St. Augustine and held in recognition of National Preservation Month, the tours will include the city’s “streetcar suburbs” from more than a century ago, old plantations that are now subdivisions, hidden hotels from the Flagler era and much more. Plus, the tours will look at endangered properties in need of preservation. The tours take place at 9:30 a.m. and noon and depart from The Old Jail Museum, 167 San Marco Avenue in St. Augustine. RIDING INTO HISTORY MOTORCYCLE EVENT
For the 11th straight year,Riding Into History, one of America’s premier motorcycle events, will return to the World Golf Village from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature classic American motorcycles and include charity rides to World Golf Village, a bike show featuring hundreds of motorcycles along the Village’s Walk of Champions and a Biker’s Ball to be held at the Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village. HISTORIC GARDENING AT FORT MOSE
Come learn the gardening techniques that residents of Fort Mose would have used more than 270 years ago and how they still apply today. This program takes place at 1 p.m. and is free with the regular park entrance fee of $4 per vehicle or $2 for individuals who bicycle, walk, or ride the trolley. The event is weather permitting. DAVID GARRARD’S FISHING FOR THE CURE
Hosted by Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback David Garrard, this exciting tournament features an inshore and offshore fishing competition and a VIP party. NFL players from around the country will gather at the Conch House Marina, located at 57 Comares Avenue in St. Augustine, for a day of fishing with locals and visitors, competing for 10 prize packages. The VIP party that night will feature live music, great food & drink, celebrity signings, and an auction. Proceeds will benefit the David Garrard Foundation that supports families impacted by breast cancer and Crohn’s disease and promotes healthy lifestyles for today’s youth. TASTE OF THE BEACH
Take a nibble from the signature dishes from more than 20 of the finest restaurants in St. Augustine Beach at this annual ‘taste-fest”. The crowd and judges get to pick the coveted “Best of the Beach” restaurant at the end of the evening. Performing artist Kenya will entertain the crowd with an interactive performance featuring a variety of musical instruments. Admission is free and taste tickets sell for $1 each. The Taste of St. Augustine Beach takes place from noon to 6 p.m. at St. Augustine Beach Park Pier Pavilion located at 350 A1A Beach Blvd. For more information, call 904.347.8007

ST AUGUSTINE COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA MASTERWORKS CONCERT
