James D. Fiske, Historical Interpreter and Music Events Coordinator for the Florida Agricultural Museum, invites St. Johns County Historic City News readers to attend “Music at the Museum” featuring “The Real Deal” Willie Green.
Fiske says to come early on Saturday, May 22nd, and take a tour of the museum – meet the cracker cows, horses and piney woods rooters. Tour prices $6.00 adults – $4.00 Children ages 3-12. “Ask about riding lessons and trail rides,” Fiske said.
St. Augustine’s Billy Buchanan will be performing during the afternoon from 3:30 until 4:30.
A free, family oriented open jam session featuring Nothin’ But The Blues will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Bring your harmonica, dobro, guitar, doghouse bass and jam. If you don’t play, just bring your voice, or come and listen.
“The Real Deal” Willie Green performs from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., $10 Admission.
Delta style bluesman “The Real Deal” Willie Green, was born in Montgomery, Alabama in the early 1930s, and worked many years with a rural share crop family. Green learned the blues early on in his teens when he would hitchhike or hop a freight train to town to hear the old blues masters in the juke joints.
He is self taught on both harmonica and guitar and has opened shows for John Hammond Jr., Tommy Castro, Charlie Musselwhite, Maria Maldaur, John Lee Hooker Jr, James Cotten, Eddie Kirkland, Joey Gillmore, JJ Grey (MOFRO) and many others including an outdoor opener at Veterans Coloseum for Eric Clapton.
Green now resides in Ocala and plays regularly at the Yearling Restaurant in Cross Creek.
Fiske says that there are a limited number of V.I.P. event tickets available for $30.00, that include:
