Effective tomorrow, Tuesday, April 13th, the local St. Augustine news desk has received word from Public Information Coordinator Cathy DuPont that the Toques Place parking lot will be closed for construction during the day tomorrow.
Abandoned artesian wells located in the parking lot are being capped as part of the St. Johns River Water Management District abandoned artesian well plugging program. Plugging abandoned artesian wells is looked upon as a water conservation opportunity
The District has accomplished the plugging or reconstruction of 3,018 wells as of September 30, 2000.
Businesses in the area of the downtown parking lot should expect periods of excess groundwater running along Hypolita and Cuna streets “during brief periods”, according to DuPont.
Work is beginning at 7:00 a.m. and will continue until approximately 4:00 p.m.
The surrounding businesses should notify suppliers the lot will also be closed for deliveries.
It is not anticipated that any streets will need to be closed.
