The Princeton Review ranked the University of Florida as the No. 1 party school in 2008; they were unseated by the University of Georgia this year — perhaps not coincidentally, UF’s rival in the football game known as the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party”.
Now, the City and University of Florida are partners in an application before the Planning and Zoning Board seeking an exception to zoning codes “to allow alcohol sales and service at public and private events.”
The University of Florida is now the legal custodian of 34 state-owned properties in the Historic Districts of downtown St. Augustine and they want liquor sales allowed for receptions and events at Government House and in the Colonial Spanish Quarter.
Applications have been filed for use by exception at those venues that the University now controls. They will be heard during the regular monthly Planning and Zoning Board meeting to be held October 5th at 2:00 p.m. in the Alcazar room at City Hall.
