St. Augustine Visitors and Convention Bureau Communications Director Jay Humphreys told Historic City News that both visitors and residents will find something special in great local entertainment and shopping this weekend.

242nd Annual GREEK LANDING DAY CELEBRATION
Celebrate the 242ND anniversary of the arrival of the first colony of Greeks in North America. Hundreds of Greeks, Menorcans and Corsicans arrived in St. Augustine on June 26, 1768 and went on to establish the New Smyrna Colony. St. Photios Shrine serves as a memorial to those Greek colonists by witnessing the Orthodox Faith and promoting the Hellenic culture. On Friday there will be Supplications to the Virgin Mary at 11:30 a.m., and Great Vespers followed by the Blessing of the Five Loaves will take place at 5:30 p.m. Then from6 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, visit the “Glendi” for a celebration of music, food and dancing. THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW
Back by popular demand, the Limelight Theatre’s original cast returns to present Richard O’Brien’s cult rock and roll horror-comedy. Audience participation is encouraged at this live performance, but please no props from home – prop packages will be made available prior to the show. The horror begins at 7:30 p.m. both nights. The show will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights through July 10 with a special 11 p.m. performance on July 3. Tickets are $25 each. BATTLE OF BLOODY MOSE 270TH ANNIVERSARY
This realistic re-enactment commemorates the 270th anniversary of the battle of Fort Mose – the first legally-sanctioned community for free blacks in what is now the United States. See the Spanish militia composed of runaway slaves, Spanish regulars and their Indian allies battle against the invading English forces from Georgia and Scottish troops from South Carolina. Living history demonstrations, guided tours, food vendors and music are included. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fort Mose State Park located at 15 Fort Mose Trail in St. Augustine. HANDS ACROSS THE SAND
Join hands to support our neighbors on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. St. Augustine “Hands” will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at every beach ramp from the St. Augustine Beach Pier located at 350 A1A Beach Blvd. to the South Beach Grill ramp located on Cubbedge Rd. in Crescent Beach. This event is a gathering of concerned individuals who oppose offshore oil drilling, and encourage the research and implementation of alternative fuel and energy sources. ANASTASIA STATE PARK LOW TIDE BIKE RIDE
Get a great cardio vascular workout on one of the most awesome beaches in Florida. Meet at Island Joe’s pavilion located inside the park 15 minutes prior to the event. Bring at least one pint of water, bicycle, snack, binoculars, and sunscreen. This Ranger led event will start with a 3 ½ mile low tide bike ride and bird watch and includes an ecology talk at the point of Conch Island. Be prepared for weather conditions on the beach which could be influenced by heat, wind and sand. The ride starts at 2:30 p.m. and is free with paid park admission. Admission to Anastasia State Park on A1A in St. Augustine is $8 per vehicle up to 8 passengers and $2 for pedestrians and bicyclists. UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT
A favorite end-of-the-month event, Uptown Saturday Night takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. in St. Augustine’s San Marco Shopping District. Galleries, antique stores and unique shops between Ripley’s Museum and the Mission of Nombre de Dios remain open during this special time. Meet the artists, book signings, live music, refreshments and other events contribute to the party-like atmosphere. The Mission of Nombre de Dios provides FREE PARKING for Uptown Saturday Night. SUNSET/MOONRISE TOUR
Be a guest of the St. Augustine Lighthouse and enjoy viewing the sunset and moonrise from the most unique perspective in all of St. Augustine! This special event at the top of the tower includes a champagne toast, provided by San Sebastian Winery, and light refreshments, provided by The Reef.
