Jeremy Robshaw, Public Information Officer with St. Johns County Fire Rescue, informed Historic City News local reporters that emergency personnel responded to a residential structure fire in the 1000 block of North St. Johns Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. yesterday.
Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters found a raised single story residential structure fully involved in fire.
Firefighters confirmed the structure was evacuated and began a defensive fire attack on the structure.
The fire was brought under control in approximately 45 minutes, but the structure will be listed as a total loss.
One structure in the area sustained minor damage to the exterior siding from a burning ember that was blown across the road onto the home. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the exposure fire with minimal damage to the structure.
The occupant of the original fire home sustained a minor burn injury, was evaluated by St. Johns County Fire Rescue and refused transportation to the hospital.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by St. Johns County Fire Rescue and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
