General Services Director Jim Piggott tells local St. Augustine reporters with Historic City News that the Visitor Information Center restrooms are promised to re-open “by the end of May, barring any unforeseen construction delays.”
Piggott told city commissioners during their regular meeting last week that the extent of problems was greater than expected and repair time longer.
Historic City News previously reported that the restrooms were closed last fall when faulty ventilation caused the ceilings to begin collapsing.
The restrooms were completed with the opening of the Historic Downtown Parking Facility in 2006.
The city commission authorized $100,000 to speed immediate repair work, while City Attorney Ron Brown continues to investigate who among the contractors are responsible for the damages and repairs.
