West King Street reopens after almost a year

St. Johns County, in partnership with the City of St. Augustine and Florida Department of Transportation, is pleased to announce West King Street is now re-open to two-way traffic.

West King Street was limited to one-way traffic since April 2009 during the first phase of a complex roadway and infrastructure improvement project. The new roadway has a rebuilt stormwater drainage system, upgraded water and sewer utilities, improved traffic flow and a new mast arm traffic signal at the Palmer Street/Pellicer Lane intersection. The improvements have been a joint project between St. Johns County, the City of St. Augustine and a grant from FDOT.

While all area businesses remained open and accessible during the construction, officials acknowledge the difficulties they faced as an unavoidable byproduct of the construction. To help reduce the impact, officials responded to community requests and reversed the direction of the one-way traffic in June. Additionally, the County is pleased to have completed the project on time and within budget. The improved infrastructure is also expected to have a positive long-term impact to the businesses and homes in the West King Street community.
