As Historic City News reporters checked activity around town yesterday, there was at least one full parking lot in town — EPIC Theatres of St. Augustine was packed from the entrance almost to SR-207, with some early matinee screenings sold-out.
When we recently spoke with Epic Theatres president, Frank DeMarsh, he reported that the sixteen-screen theatre in St. Augustine is meeting the company’s expectations.
With the closure of the Regal Cinema in Ponce de Leon Mall, Epic became the only major movie theatre in the St. Augustine area.
About the time the privately held motion picture theatre operator began construction at EPIC Center in St. Augustine, they announced construction of a fourteen-screen theatre in the Palm Coast Town Centre, which opened earlier this year, as well as two more sixteen-screen theatres in Deltona and the Orlando suburb of Clermont.
Epic Theatres, Inc., is based in DeLand and features stadium style seating, Dolby Digital sound and 3-D screens (in some auditoriums).
