Within 5 minutes – car is stolen from front of home

Posted on 02/19/2010 By Historic City News

The local St. Augustine news desk has learned that last Thursday morning, Police Officer Jeff Collins responded to a residence on North Whitney Street to investigate the theft of a 2000 Nissan Maxima.

The victim told police that he went outside and started his Maxima at approximately 5:40 that morning. It was cold and he wanted to warm the car up; so, he left his vehicle unattended, unlocked, keys in the ignition, and running.

According to Collins’ report, the victim went back inside his residence for only 5 minutes after starting the car, however, when he returned to his vehicle — it was gone.

Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that the identifying information of the vehicle was entered into police computers and the investigation is ongoing.
