Woman jailed after parking lot fight at local gym

Historic City News reporters learned that Kelly Suzanne Smith was taken into custody and jailed Sunday evening after an altercation with a woman who she says is continuing an affair with her husband.

46 year-old Smith, who resides at 19 Lloyd Trail in Palm Coast, is married to a St. Augustine Beach police officer.

St. Johns County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call in the parking lot of World Gym, located at 1947 A1A South on Anastasia Island in St. Augustine.

According to reports of the incident, when deputies arrived on the scene, they found the victim bleeding from the nose, and, according to one witness, having been kicked by Kelly Smith in the attack.

The victim says that she and Smith’s husband are friends and were about to go into the gym when Smith pulled into the parking lot and approached them “in an aggressive manner.”

The husband reportedly got between the two women — as Kelly Smith reached around him and struck the victim with her closed fist; drawing blood.

The victim in this attack was the police officer’s former supervisor; who was terminated from the St. Augustine Beach Police Department in October after an administrative inquiry determined she was carrying on an “inappropriate relationship” with the officer.

Kelly Suzanne Smith was charged with battery; a first degree misdemeanor. She was released from the St. Johns County Jail the same day after posting a $250 appearance bond.
