Elaine Fraser, Owner and General Manager of the Oldest Wooden School House Historic Museum and Gardens, reported to Historic City News that participating in the first annual Columbia Marathon was fun and entertaining for her and her staff.
With help from the St Augustine Garrison – 1740 Homeland Security Unit, schoolhouse “professors” Jerry and Jill Hall and Mariette Cubbage, manned a water station for appreciative runners at the 11th+ mile and again on their return from Matanzas.
“The event was a great success thanks to our Nease High School student volunteers — Carly, Erica and Huyana,” Fraser said. “For them to be there with at 6:00 a.m. to help us set up was fabulous.”
Garrison members Conrad and Tom, in full military regalia, assisted the Oldest Wooden School House “Principal” pass out cups of water and words of encouragement to the marathon participants as they made their way across the 3.1 mile course.
