2011 March for Life being held Saturday
The City of St. Augustine has informed Historic City News local reporters that the 2011 March for Life will necessitate a brief closure of a portion of San Marco Avenue and South Castillo Drive starting at approximately noon on Saturday, January 15th.
March for Life St. Augustine is for anyone of any faith who believes in the sanctity of human life.
According to their spokesperson, “Our first march, in January of 2007, brought over 700 people of many different faiths, backgrounds and ages.” Last year the group reports that they drew over 1,500 participants.
The annual event will start at the Mission Nombre de Dios and proceed south on San Marco Avenue and continuing on South Castillo Drive to the City Gates, then south on St. George Street to the Plaza where the event concludes.
San Marco Avenue will be closed to all vehicular traffic during the procession which should take approximately 45 minutes. In addition, St. George Street between Cathedral Place and King Street will be closed from approximately 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
To avoid any inconvenience, the public is advised to avoid the area unless involved with the event.
