Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw reported to Historic City News that a 41-year old St. Johns County man has been arrested on charges of improper exhibition of a firearm and resisting arrest without violence early this morning.
Daryl Wayne Stratton, who lives at 429 Mango Circle, was booked into the County Jail where he remains in lieu of $3,000 bond.
Deputies responded to the 400 block of International Golf Drive at 11:30 p.m. last night to investigate a suspicious vehicle after receiving several reports of gunfire in the area.
Three men were observed walking from the woods at the time the deputies arrived. They were ordered to put their hands into the air and walk towards the deputies.
Two of the subjects complied; however, Stratton refused and told the deputies to come to him.
The other subjects advised deputies that Stratton was in possession of a weapon.
Deputies attempted to secure the firearm in Stratton’s waistband, but, he began to resist — even after one handcuff was placed on his wrist. One of the deputies used their Taser in order to gain Stratton’s compliance until he could be secured.
Further investigation of the wooded area where the subjects first appeared revealed a shotgun and an AR-15 rifle.
Deputies seized ammunition for the weapons and questioned the other two subjects; who were released.
