Public Information Officer Mark Samson reported to Historic City News that the St. Augustine Police Department was called to the Scottish Inn on Anastasia Boulevard on Thursday, May 12th, to investigate a cell phone that was reported stolen.
Acting on a lead developed during the investigation, Officer Jessica Podonti, Sergeant Jason Etheredge and Detective Gary Johnson went to a room at the motel where they believed the cell phone was located.
Police determined that the room was occupied by 45 year-old Bryan Eugene Gibson and 28 year-old Tina Leslie Edenfield. Officers asked for permission to search the room; the stolen cell phone was recovered.
While inside the motel room, Sergeant Etheredge located what he believed to be methamphetamine cooking in a duffel bag in a closet. The room was cleared for everyone’s safety.
The St. Augustine Fire Department and St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office were notified and Summit Environmental was called in to remove any hazardous material. The room and evidence were photographed and photos placed into evidence. The room was turned over to the property owners after the hazardous material was removed.
