Stellers Gallery at Ponte Vedra will exhibit the work of nationally-recognized oil painter, Henry Von Genk, III, to benefit St. Johns Riverkeeper. Von Genk donated a framed original painting, entitled “Our River of Life” to the local non-profit organization, which is to be raffled off in a drawing held during their annual Oyster Roast on Friday, November 18th. The original oil painting will be on display at the artist’s reception and raffle tickets may be purchased throughout the evening. Additionally, twenty-five limited edition giclees on canvas of “Our River of Life” will be available for purchase from Stellers Gallery with a portion of the proceeds also designated to benefit St. Johns Riverkeeper.

“WALK IN PEACE” EXHIBIT & SHOE DRIVE TO HONOR 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11 NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE. The St. Augustine Art Association will launch its 88th season this September with the premier of Don Trousdell’s “Walk in Peace” exhibit. A collection of colorful paintings and interactive installations, the exhibit chronicles the history and imagery of peace, as interpreted by the internationally acclaimed artist. A shoe drive will last throughout the month of September, and the “Walk in Peace” exhibit will be on view through October 2.

“Menagerie” is a word used to describe animal figures other than horses, in the old carrousel figures. But make no mistake, There is no intention of making “cutesy” in these images. A collection of impressions loosely inspired by antiqued archetypical zoomorphic figures is no strange subject matter for artist Marianne Lerbs. The works are contemporary, both old and new in a fresh revision of the mythical entities.

As part of the visiting artist series, Florida School of the Arts will present a gallery exhibition for photographer John Sevigny. Sevigny’s documentary photographs focus on a variety of subjects, revealing the movement and struggle of people in search of survival in a bleak landscape of an impoverished Mexico. His portraits peel back prejudices to expose the honor and humanity of those rarely seen but who are often defined in politically-charged discourse north of the border.

The P.A.ST.A. fine arts gallery`s featured artist for the month of September will be local artist Maricarman.
The show entitled : ” With All Colors ” will feature the artist`s work in acrylics. Born in La Mancha Spain, her work still bears a Spanish influence, but the contrast of a quiet relaxed lifestyle and bright light of St. Augustine are now her primary influence. The subject matter will consist of still life, figurative and paintings of Spanish villages.
The show will run through the month of September. The gallery is open seven days a week, Mon.- Fri. 12 to 4:00 p.m. and Sat.& Sun. 12 to 5:00 p.m. and is located at 214 Charlotte St., St. Augustine.

This event was founded by Marianne Campbell and Malorie Shannon over 13 years ago. It has grown from a small neighborhood summer event to an annual festival at the beach, and an annual holiday festival sprouted out of the effort, as well.

Call for Entries! Area artists and craftsmen are cordially invited to submit their application to become an exhibitor at the upcoming Old Town Art & Craft Show. The show will be held at Francis Field in the heart of historic downtown Saint Augustine, Florida; December 28 – 29, 2011 (Wednesday & Thursday).
This is a juried show that will showcase outstanding artists and craftsmen from Florida and around the country. Categories include: painting, pottery, fiber arts, jewelry, photography, wood, glass, metal, sculpture and mixed media. All work must be of original design and produced by the exhibiting artist or a two-person collaboration.

Nationally-renowned writer Peter Trachtenberg will visit Flagler College on Oct. 3 as the first event of the college’s 2011-2012 Writers in Residence Program. Trachtenberg is the author of “The Book of Calamities: Five Questions About Suffering and Its Meaning” (Little, Brown 2008), a book that combines reportage, memoir and moral philosophy. The work won the 2009 Phi Beta Kappa Ralph Waldo Emerson Award for works that contribute significantly to interpretations of the intellectual and cultural condition of humanity. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign language interpreters available upon request.

Florida School of the Arts presents “The Women of Lockerbie,” a poetic drama about the triumph of love over hate. Written by Deborah Brevoort, the play is loosely inspired by the true story of the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 and the women of Lockerbie, Scotland, determined to wash the clothes of the dead and return them to the victims’ families.The play, written in the structure of a Greek tragedy, will be performed on the Main Stage located on the St. Johns River State College Palatka campus.
