Burglary suspect being sought by Sheriff

Yesterday, the St. Johns County Detention Facility released a 63-year old Duval County woman; arrested on charges of burglary to an unoccupied dwelling, grand theft and grand theft auto according to a report received by Historic City News.

Victoria Jane Friedman who lives at 11034 St. Anthony’s Court in Jacksonville was arrested Monday afternoon and released yesterday after posting a $15,000 appearance bond.

Property Crimes Unit Detectives began the investigation following a reported burglary to a home that occurred between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on May 12th.

Reported stolen were several antiques to include jewelry and civil war documents along with antique trains, a flat screen television and an antique clock. Some of the items in the home located in the 1100 block of Hideaway Dr. North, in St. Johns, were described as “priceless” and the total value stolen was over $20,000.

Detectives were able to identify a vehicle that was possibly used in the burglary and identified a possible suspect; who was employed in a care giver capacity by “Senior Helpers” who took care of the victim’s elderly mother.

Witnesses reported observing a Kia Soul at the victim’s home during the time frame of the burglary. Detectives were able to identify a matching vehicle that Friedman allegedly leased on the day of the crime.

Friedman was questioned on Monday at her home and admitted to the burglary. She told detectives that she had planned the crime in order to settle a debt owed by her to “loan sharks”.

Friedman claimed that she rented the vehicle used in the burglary for two un-named persons. Detectives learned that had Friedman also rented a storage unit where a majority of the stolen property was located. Property that could be identified was returned to the rightful owner.

Detectives are seeking a second unknown subject; believed to have assisted Friedman in the thefts.
