Police report to Historic City News that after obtaining a warrant to search the car driven by 29 year-old Jared Matthew Bruge on May 9th, items were found that appear to be the same as those seen in a video surveillance from the scene of a different armed robbery.
Bruge was arrested by police after he was observed leaving the scene of an armed robbery at the CITGO located at 1099 S. Ponce de Leon Boulevard on May 9th at 6:53 a.m. When police approached him at Cobblestone Village Shopping Center, Bruge took off; leading officers on a high speed chase — until he hit a tree and was taken into custody.
Items found in Bruge’ vehicle appear to have been taken from the Marathon located at 800 S. Ponce de Leon Boulevard during another armed robbery that had occurred at 1:42 a.m. on the same day.
Bruge is believed to have completed both robberies that morning — five hours apart.
St. Augustine Police Detective Michael Castaing arrested Bruge on the new charges at the St. Johns County Detention Facility where he was already in custody.
