Chowske wins Grand Award with brochure
Flagler College reported to Historic City News that Carrie Pack Chowske, Director of Marketing Communications at Flagler College, recently received two awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
In the 2011 CASE District III Awards program, which covers the southeastern portion of the U.S., Chowske was the Grand Award Winner in the low budget publications category for the college’s study abroad brochure, beating out such notables as UNC-Chapel Hill and College of Charleston.
For the brochure, Chowske said she wanted to create an informational brochure for current students about Flagler’s growing study abroad program that would highlight “the richness of the study abroad experience.”
The judges for this category were impressed with the brochure’s “captivating images,” which were largely contributed by students from their study abroad trips over the last five years, and the use of a limited budget.
Chowske said the brochure has been well-received, and since its distribution, faculty-led study abroad trips have increased by 35 percent from 2009 to 2010.
Also, in the 2011 CASE District III Awards program, Chowske, along with Assistant Director of Development Bethany Fessenden, received an Award of Excellence for the 2009-2010 Flagler College Honor Roll of Donors in the direct mail category. Larger institutions such as the University of Miami, Tulane University and South Carolina were also in this category.
The annual project, intended to thank donors for their financial contributions to the college, consisted of a 16-page booklet, personalized postcard, cover letter and website.
Chowske said the cost of the project was reduced by 60 percent from the year before, and two-and-a-half months were cut from the production time needed in previous years.
The judge’s comments for this project noted the “very clean design, good use of budget and good carryover from print to web.”
CASE is a professional association serving educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas.
Chowske received her master’s in journalism education from the University of Missouri and has worked at Flagler for the last six years.
