The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office reported to Historic City News that their bomb squad was dispatched to Flagler County this morning to dispose of a hand grenade that had been purchased at an estate sale.
The initial information from Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies at the scene on San Pablo Court was that a woman purchased the grenade thinking it was a novelty cigarette lighter.
She contacted the Sheriff’s Office at 10:54 a.m. this morning when she determined that it might actually be a grenade.
Deputies said the firing pin had been pulled out and apparently replaced.
When the bomb squad disposed of the grenade around 1:10 p.m., it was found to be filled with concrete and was not a live grenade, after all.
