Historic City News learned that a 5:00 p.m. collision on a stretch of SR-207 between Hastings and Elkton, sent former St. Johns County Commissioner Craig Maguire to Shands Jacksonville trauma center by air ambulance.
St. Johns County Sheriff’s Sergeant Charles E. Mulligan told Historic City News that, at last report, Maguire is alert and talking, however, he remains hospitalized as of 9:00 p.m. this evening.
Craig Maguire is the twin brother of former St. Johns County Commissioner Bruce Maguire. Craig Maguire left office in 1996 after serving as a county commissioner for eight years.
Details of the accident are still under investigation and not yet being released; however, authorities have verified that the collision occurred in the area of Blount Road and SR-207
At first report, Maguire was believed to have sustained serious injures. His injuries have now been determined to be “not life threatening”, according to Mulligan.
Mulligan said members of Maguire’s family were at the hospital and the former commissioner was “conscious, alert and talking”. We attempted to reach Maguire’s brother for additional details and an update on Craig’s condition — without success.
