Carolyn Smith, St. Augustine Humane Society’s interim operations director, informed Historic City News reporters that a record number of unwanted kittens are being born in the local area.
To address the heightened demand, in addition to the regular Spay Shuttle on the third Thursday of each month, the Humane Society will begin running a “cats only” shuttle on the second Friday of each month throughout the summer.
The shuttle will transport cats from the St. Augustine Humane Society location at 1665 Old Moultrie Road in St. Augustine, to the “No More Homeless Pets” clinic in Jacksonville.
The next shuttle date is Friday, May 13th; with check-in from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m.
Cats are returned to the Humane Society on the same day at approximately 8:00 pm.
The low-cost surgery for pet cats is $50; surgery for feral cats is $30 per cat. Ferals must be delivered in humane traps which may be borrowed, with a $50 refundable deposit, from the Humane Society’s trap depot.
Additionally, whole litters of kittens will be given surgery for $50 per litter — up to 4 kittens.
Additional kittens from the same litter are spayed and neutered for $10 each.
Space is limited. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required.
