Frequent Historic City News contributor Geoffrey Dobson, of St. Augustine, has been installed, for a one-year term, as District Deputy to the Elks National President for the lodges in the Northeast District of the Florida State Elks Association.
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the USA Lodge No. 829 of St. Augustine is Dobson’s home lodge. Dobson, and his very supportive wife Becky, recently hosted the traditional “State President’s Homecoming Visitation” in town with assistance of the whole St. Augustine Lodge.
“Dobson has been a good ambassador for the Elks and the City of St. Augustine,” State President James E. Hurst remarked. “We found the hotel accommodations and hospitality room chosen by Dobson to be superb and their choice of restaurant and dinner very enjoyable on Friday night.”
Installation ceremonies for Dobson were part of the Order’s 147th Elks National Convention in Phoenix, Arizona; attended by more than 9,000 members and guests.
More than 63,900 members belong to 109 Elks Lodges in Florida. Nationally, the Elks give more than $8,500,000 in college scholarships, $8,800,000 to youth programs, and $4,350,000 in military and veterans’ support yearly.
