In a move that Historic City News editor Michael Gold will take full advantage of, City of St. Augustine Commissioners moved to approve the recommendation of the Parking and Traffic Committee last night and pushed back the starting time of metered parking enforcement around the Plaza until 10:00 a.m.
The City feels that the extension of two additional hours of complimentary parking will add a convenience for those who frequent downtown churches or do business downtown in the morning.
The extra two hours of “free parking” along King Street and Cathedral Place between Cordova Street and Charlotte Street will no doubt encourage local residents to return to downtown — at least in the early morning hours.
Parking hours at all other metered spaces and parking lots remain unchanged while the city staff monitors and evaluates participation in this trial measure in an effort to determine its acceptance by the community.
The new policy begins tomorrow, Wednesday, May 11th. Free metered parking continues daily after 5:00 p.m. and all day on Sunday. So if you miss breakfast, come back downtown for dinner.
