Historic City News readers are invited to attend the opening reception of an art exhibit celebrating women entitled, “Much Ado About Women: Portraits of Diversity” on March 6th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The exhibit is being hosted at the Limelight Theatre Gallery located at 11 Old Mission Avenue in St. Augustine.
All forms of expression in the visual arts including oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, sculpture, and photography will be on display. Admission is free, so, our readers are encouraged to attend and meet the artists.
The exhibit is part of the 2011 Festival of Muses — a month long celebration of Women’s History Month which grew out of a weeklong celebration of women’s contributions to culture, history and society organized by the school district of Sonoma, California, in 1979.
The idea quickly caught on within communities, schools and organizations across the country and in 1981, the U.S. Congress passed a resolution establishing Women’s History Week. Six years later, the event was expanded into the entire month of March.
Portraits of Diversity will be on display from March 6 through March 27, 2011.
Festival of Muses is the result of a collaboration of the National League of American Pen Women-St. Augustine Branch, The Tale Tellers of St. Augustine, Jane’s Stories Press Foundation, The Limelight Theatre, The Cyprian Center for the Expressive Arts and the St. Johns Cultural Council.
This is the third year the groups have come together to create the month long celebration of Women’s History Month.
