Fire department receives generous donation

The St Augustine Fire Department will be the beneficiary of a generous donation of new equipment from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation next week, according to an announcement received by Historic City News today.

The equipment, a RAD-57 Pulse CO-Oximeter, is used to measure the amount of carbon monoxide in a person’s blood and it is valued in excess of $4,000.

The donation will be made during a ceremony on Tuesday, December 6 at the Cobblestone Firehouse Subs, 200 Cobblestone Dr., Suite 106. The ceremony starts at 10:00am.

“Carbon monoxide is the most common cause of poisoning in the U.S.,” said St. Augustine Fire Chief, Mike Arnold, adding “In the US, as many as 5,000 to 6,000 people die annually as a result of CO poisoning. This new piece of equipment is a valuable additional tool for our firefighters.”

“With the continued budget restraints that the fire department, as well as other city departments, have to work within, this support from the private sector is most welcome,” said Arnold “The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has proven time and time again its support of firefighters through its support. We are both proud and grateful for this donation.”
