Jeremy Robshaw updated Historic City News this morning on the investigation of the fire at 289 Southlake Drive in St. Augustine early Saturday; where 94-year old widow, Charlotte R. Leiser, died.
The residential structure fire was reported at approximately 4:30 Saturday morning inside the Leiser residence; one mile west of I-95, south of CR-210 in St Augustine.
According to Robshaw, the official cause of the fire has been determined to be a cooking accident. District 23 Medical Examiner, Dr. Predag Bulic, will still have to determine what caused the woman’s death after the autopsy investigation is complete.
Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported hearing the sound of local smoke alarms and observed smoke showing from a rear door of the single story residential structure.
Crews made entry, located Leiser’s body, and a small kitchen fire. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished by firefighters without incident and minimal damage to the structure.
