Flagler National Night Out planned

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office reported to Historic City News that they are partnering with Target and the Flagler County School District to promote “National Night Out”, a nationwide move to fight crime.

Deputy Kevin Byrne, the Sheriff’s Certified Crime Prevention Practitioner will launch the local even on Tuesday, August 2nd, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the campus of Flagler Palm Coast High School on State Road 100.

Target is a national sponsor of this event that is organized by the National Association of Town Watch.

“I am pleased to be able to partner with Target to bring this event to our community. This is a great opportunity to get a Neighborhood Watch movement started in Flagler County where our residents can participate in protecting their neighborhoods,” said Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming.

The three-hour event will feature distribution of crime prevention material and demonstrations, children’s games and food. Target will be hosting a booth featuring numerous “give-aways” connected to the annual event.

The Sheriff’s Office K-9 and Motor units will demonstrate their skills and the mobile command unit will be open for inspection by local residents.

The city police departments of both Flagler Beach and Bunnell will be represented during the event.

“The purpose of National Night Out is to get residents out of their homes to meet their neighbors. What we hope to do with this event is to make it a county-wide educational opportunity providing crime prevention tips that our residents can take back to their neighborhoods and share,” Byrne said. “We want to show residents the resources we have available and explain how to best utilize those services.”

Deputy Byrne will be at the “Neighborhood Watch” booth. Residents can meet with him and Neighborhood Watch Captains to find out how to organize a “Neighborhood Watch” in their community. Flagler County currently has 37 active “Neighborhood Watch” groups.

“We are inviting residents and local merchants as well. This is a crime prevention event that can benefit our commercial districts with some valuable information,” said Sheriff Fleming.
