The newsroom received word from Park Service Specialist Terri Newmans that Historic City News readers are invited to attend when the Fort Mose Historic State Park celebrates the first free black community in the United States.
During Black History Month, re-enactors in period clothing will tell the story of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Fort Mose during the “Flight to Freedom” living history demonstration on February 12, 2011.
The event will include African drumming, various exhibits and food vendors.
Florida Living History Inc. will perform Colonial Spanish military drills and provide demonstrations of musket and cannon firing throughout the day.
The entrance fee into the park is $2.00 per person.
All events will take place between 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Fort Mose Historic State Park located at 15 Fort Mose Trail in St. Augustine.
